Mixing Down's gonna take a while
Well, I was able to capture the whole jam nite on multi track... but I made one near fatal error.... I didn't check the input levels after my initial check....
Anyway, long story short... Musicians (myself included) like to be able to hear themselves onstage... and with the absence of an actual sound tech to ride the levels, adjust the monitors, and, sometimes "holler" at people to turn down... things tend to enevitably get louder and louder as the night progresses...
so... while the board sound was actually pretty good considering we didnt have a sound tech, the levels coming into the recorder were just a tad "to hot" aka... to loud and I have some serious peaking issues..
If its too low, I can boost it up.. but when its too loud, and it peaks... what you end up with is distortion....
Anyway... I may be able to salvage some of it.. but it won't be an accurate representation of how much fun it was last Saturday Night... In any event.. its gonna take a long time..
Just as an example... My snare Mic was either to close to the snare, or two loud, and my snare track is almost usless to me... BUT I did get some nice 'leakage' of the snare from other mics.. Like right now, I'm listening to Jon Matheson's set... and I have a really nice quality snare sound from the Mic that was in front of Steve Fury's amp... so I can boost that for johns set and get an acceptable snare sound.. but I can't use that mic for other tunes where Steve's amp is acutally being used..
So while I'd hoped to get off easy... get a decent board mix on the first song or two and for the most part let it run with minor tweaking here and there... I actually have to Start from Scratch for each and EVERY song...
its possible.. but its gonna take forever...
Good thing I enjoy doing this stuff..
